With Christmas just around the corner, households across the country will soon be picking out (and decorating) their perfect tree. But where in the UK is home to the most affordable festive pines?
To find out, Betway has collected data from over 100 Christmas tree suppliers to reveal the cheapest, and most expensive, cities to buy a real Christmas tree this year. They have then delved deeper to reveal whether a traditional tree is more, or less, cost-effective than buying an artificial tree.

Stoke-on-Trent is the cheapest city in the UK to buy a real Christmas tree, with costs averaging £45.60
Analysing the cost of a real Christmas tree in 30 cities across the UK, the research has revealed the most affordable locations to buy a real 6ft Nordmann Fir Christmas tree in 2023.
According to the study, Stoke-on-Trent has been crowned as the most affordable city to purchase a real Christmas tree. People living in the city can expect to pay an average of £45.60 for their Nordmann Fir this year.
Coming in second place, trees in Hull cost an average of just 37p more than in Stoke-on-Trent, at £45.97. With real trees averaging £46, Blackpool is in third place.

Nottingham has been revealed as the most expensive city in the UK to buy a real Christmas Tree this year, with those living in the city having to fork out an average of £63.50 to get their house smelling of pine needles.
The second most expensive city for Christmas trees is Edinburgh, with costs averaging £63. In third place is Derby, with Nordmann Firs in the city averaging £61.

Real Christmas trees can cost up to 254% less than an artificial one, but over a 10 year period Brits can save £348.65 with a fake tree
With an artificial 6ft Nordman Fir Christmas tree costing an average of £190.95, and a real version of this tree averaging £53.96 from Christmas tree farms around the UK, Brits can save up to 254% by purchasing a real Christmas tree this year.
However, research shows that Brits tend to keep their artificial Christmas trees for a decade on average, which means they could save around £348.65 by not purchasing a real Christmas tree for the next 10 years.
Petersham Nurseries in Richmond is the most TikTok’d Christmas Tree shop in the UK, with 737.6k hashtag views
According to TikTok, the most popular Christmas tree shop in the UK is Petersham Nurseries. With locations in both Richmond and Covent Garden, ‘#PetershamNurseries’ has 737,000 hashtag views on the social media platform.
In second place is Stockeld Park, with 689,300 TikTok hashtag views. A Grade-I listed country house and estate situated in North Yorkshire, Stockeld Park is the county’s largest grower of non-needle-drop Christmas trees. With 676,300 hashtag views, Kenyon Hall Farm in Warrington is in third place.
