Tikka Masala is no longer the UK's favourite curry
Chicken Korma has topped Tikka Masala to be named the UK’s new favourite curry, according to new national research to celebrate National Curry Week (3rd – 9th October).
The study, carried out by Foodhub, one of the UK’s leading food ordering apps, revealed that Chicken Korma is the most ordered curry in the UK, taking over from Chicken Tikka Masala which was named number one this time last year.
While a creamy Korma took top spot, Tikka Masala held on for second place, with a Chicken Madras rounding off the top three.
Elsewhere, the study discovered that Carlisle is the curry capital of the UK, with Carlisle residents ordering a curry an average of 3.5 times a week, more than any other region in the UK.
North of the border, Kilmarnock can claim to be the curry capital of Scotland, with customers in the town opting for a curry around 3 times a week.
Those living in Stoke-on-Trent and Worcester are also crazy for curry, ordering the dish around 2.5 times a week.
When it comes to handling the spice, nothing is too hot to handle for the Geordies, as Vindaloo is the number one most ordered curry in Newcastle.
In addition, Manchester has become Naanchester, with the north-west city ordering an average of two naan breads per curry, with plain naan the favourite.
Emma Stockman, Foodhub spokesperson, said: “It is clear that curry is a staple dish when it comes to the UK’s takeaway favourites. To celebrate National Curry Week, we wanted to delve into our customers’ curry cravings and the results did not disappoint.
“This time last year, we revealed Chicken Tikka Masala was the number one curry of the UK, however, times change and the nation has discovered a new favourite in the Chicken Korma in 2022.
