How to Manage Muscular Pain at Home

Aches and pains are a natural part of life, but if you’re finding yourself getting regular muscle ache it can be very uncomfortable and frustrating. Regular muscle ache could be an indication of a bigger problem, so it’s always worth visiting your doctor for some advice if it continues. Usually, however, these issues can be resolved at home with a few simple remedies. Below are some tips on how you can manage your muscular pain at home.

Check Your Posture

More often than not muscular pain is a result of poor posture. If you’re working at a desk for the majority of the day, make sure you have a quality office chair that will support your back and make sure it’s positioned at the right height at your desk. Pilates and yoga could help improve your posture, but if you are noticing that you’re slouching when sat down or stood up, make a conscious effort to straighten your spine and spread your weight evenly.

Special Support

You might need to get some additional support for the parts of your body that are causing you pain. For example, if you are experiencing shooting pains or aches in your wrist, this could be due to a repetitive strain, particularly if you’re typing, chopping, or lifting heavy things all day. You may need wrist support and you can purchase a wrist support sleeve to help with this and there are similar supports you can get for your knees, back, or neck if these are the areas causing you grief.

Get a New Mattress

If you have noticed your muscular pain feels worse in the morning, this could be due to a poor-quality mattress. You should change your mattress once every 8 years, but even if it’s been less time than that since you bought your last one, it still could be worth replacing it. Firmer mattresses provide much better support for your body while you sleep, and if yours is too soft it could be what’s causing your body to feel sore.

Over the Counter Pain Relief

To get some relief from the aches and pains you’re feeling during the day or at night, visit your local pharmacy and purchase some ibuprofen or muscle rub to apply to the problem area. While they might not be a cure for the problem, they will help to reduce the inflammation and make you more comfortable.

Have a Warm Bath

Another great way to ease sore muscles is having a long soak in a warm bath. You can purchase special muscle soak bath salts and oils which will help to relax your muscles and ease the tension you’re feeling in the affected area. It’s also a great way to unwind after a long day and help you settle into a good night’s sleep.

If your pain is persistent you should always contact your doctor to make sure it’s not a symptom of a serious problem. You may even need physiotherapy to combat the issue. However, try these remedies at home and see if they make a difference.
