Football fans are well-known to be the most passionate of all sports fans, but sometimes heated moments, losing streaks and bad calls made by misguided refs add fuel to the fire, making devoted fans very angry.

Interested in uncovering the angriest fans, the experts at SeatPick took to Reddit to carry out a sentiment analysis creating a total score out of 10, by analysing swear words used in each Premier League team's main subreddit.

SeatPick can reveal that Newcastle United fans are the angriest, with an anger score of 9.4 out of 10. Newcastle fans use an average of 43 swear words per 100 comments online, and 33.6% of comments are negative. Although Newcastle finished seventh in last year's campaign, fans were desperate for more and their anger towards other teams has been made evident on social media.

In second place is West Ham United, with an anger score of 8.3 out of 10. Although West Ham has a slightly lower average of swear words per 100 comments than first place (38), they do however have a similar percentage of negative comments per post (32.8%). West Ham finished in the top half of the Premier League table landing in ninth for the 23/24 season.

Nottingham Forest has the third angriest fans with a score of 8.1 out of 10. Nottingham Forest only just survived relegation last year, which may be why fans have been so disappointed this year (with 32.2% of their comments and posts being negative).

Everton has the fourth angriest fans, scoring 7.5/10 (average of 36 swear words per 100 comments/ posts). Everton also had a tough campaign last year and risked relegation before finishing fifteenth.

In fifth place is Manchester United with an anger score of 6.7/10 (2.7 lower than Newcastle United). Man United fans were very prominent on social media last year, with a lot of abusive comments regarding Ronaldo’s departure in November 2022 which enraged many loyal fans.
