Will Dwayne Johnson Star in a New Terminator Movie?
Despite the recent Terminator: Dark Fate being an incredible box office bomb, ScreenRant claims that James Cameron has spoken about his desire to make another Terminator movie and has various ideas about how it could play out. However, it's unlikely that Arnold Schwarzenegger will return to one of his most iconic characters.
There are plenty of stars that could take on the role of a Terminator, and fans have already put forward Dwayne Johnson as their ideal man for the job. However, there are no official reports of the Fast & Furious actor’s willingness to take on the role.
Cameron Wants to Continue the Franchise
Cameron has made many iconic films over the years, but The Terminator could go down as the most prescient. With artificial intelligence now a real thing in today’s society, the possibility that it gains control is on the table.
That’s why the director believes it’s a great time to release more movies in his legendary series. Even though the last picture didn’t perform well, Terminator themes are still prevalent across mainstream entertainment.
Aside from the six movies that have been released since 1984, there have also been countless games that have allowed players to be immersed in Cameron’s post-apocalyptic vision. For instance, on mobile there’s the Terminator Genisys and Terminator: Dark Fate apps. In the iGaming industry, the Terminator 2 online slot at CasinoKings is still one of the top games of all time. Despite there being more than 1000 titles on the site, it still attracts players.
Fans Have Called for Johnson in the Role
There’s no doubt that the Terminator is one of Arnie’s most iconic roles, and it’s impossible to replace him. The most likely way forward with a new picture would be to send the 77-year-old’s T-800 to the scrapyard and start afresh with a new Cyberdyne Systems killing machine.
A new Terminator picture would have to right the box office wrongs of the last few outings as well, meaning that it would require a major star to boost ticket sales. There’s arguably nobody better in Hollywood than Johnson for this, as he’s one of the highest-grossing film stars of all time according to Fox Business. Indeed, his pictures have raked in more than $12.5 billion worldwide already, and he’s got plenty of years ahead of him at the age of 52.
Which Other Stars Could Fit the Bill?
If Johnson isn’t keen on entering the Terminator franchise, there are a few other actors that could potentially be worthy Arnie replacements. After Arnie’s son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, appeared in Gen V, there were suggestions in some circles that he could take on the mantle.
The 30-year-old isn’t a household name, though, so would be a risky appointment from the studio’s perspective. Someone like Jason Statham could be a wiser choice, as the Englishman has the build and the box office appeal to pull it off.
Johnson hasn’t thrown his hat in the ring for the next Terminator film yet, but he would be an excellent choice. Along with looking like an efficient killing machine, the 52-year-old also guarantees high box office numbers.
