Almost nine in ten children say that the most important thing on holiday is having fun

What kids want from a summer holiday revealed

Almost nine in ten children (87%) say that the most important thing on holiday is having fun and spending time with their family, according to parents in a recent study.

While holidaymakers typically head off in search of scorching temperatures and foreign culture, fascinating new research has revealed the desires of the ones that really matter – the children.

The study into children’s holiday habits from Butlin’s found while mum and dad prioritise food and drink (42%) and sunny weather (38%) on holiday, kids are in fact more concerned with swimming (57%) water slides (50%), and fairground rides (40%).

While beaches in Barbados and medinas in Morocco may seem like the perfect family break on paper, kids actually want to be entertained and have a holiday where the fun never stops, the data shows.

Butlin’s family breaks offer the perfect solution, with its UK-based holidays being the ultimate destination for fun, family together-time. Whether it’s parents of toddlers or early-teens, there’s something for everyone at a purse-friendly price with so much included, from unlimited fairground rides to headline acts and live shows.

One of the key issues for children with holidays abroad, according to the research, is travelling boredom. Whether it be travelling from home to the airport, during the flight or on the hotel transfer the average UK child asks, “Are we there yet?” eight times over the course of a family holiday overseas.

With lots of the tiresome travel boredom alleviated, 85% of parents say their child actively enjoys going on holiday in the UK, with over eight in ten (81%) stating that their child would love to visit a holiday resort like Butlin’s.

Meanwhile, over six in ten (61%) parents say holidaying abroad is more stressful than going on a break in the UK, with two-thirds of (66%) saying UK staycations are a more cost-effective way to keep their kids happy and entertained.

Mike Godolphin, Entertainment Director at Butlin’s, said: “Family holidays are supposed to be a holiday for everyone to enjoy so parents it’s time to start listening to the little ones when making holiday plans! Hopefully our research will help to show parents what kids really want!

“As our survey reveals 81% of children would love a visit to an all-in-one holiday spot like Butlin’s, with swimming, water slides, and fairground rides being at the top of what children want from a holiday – we can confidently say we are the home of entertainment.

“Children can enjoy countless fun-filled activities, such as live shows from big-name acts, our huge Splash Waterworld pools, and endless fairground rides, plus so much more meaning mum and dad can kick back and relax or join in the fun themselves.”

Families can grab a fantastic last-minute summer holiday deal at Butlin’s, with prices starting from just £238* for a family of four.
