New study reveals the most expensive cities in the UK for a Christmas carvery
From the crispy potatoes and cauliflower cheese, to the Yorkshire pudding and beef covered in gravy, roast dinners are a staple of British culture. But, where in the UK is the cheapest place to indulge in the traditional British dish?
To find out, online betting company Betway has conducted new research, analysing 179 different Toby Carvery, Greene King, and Brewers Fayre restaurants across the country to reveal the most and least expensive UK cities to get a weekend carvery.
Swansea is the most expensive place for a carvery, with prices averaging £12.89
Coming in as the most expensive city for a weekend carvery is Swansea. Average prices are around £12.89, which is nearly 20% more than in Wolverhampton. The most expensive pub is the Cockleshell Toby Carvery, which offers roasts for as high as £14.29, though there are a few pubs in the city where you can get a carvery for £11.49 – a 25% difference in price.
With an average of £12.57, Leicester is in second place. There are two locations included in the study where diners can get a carvery for £10.99, including Farmhouse Inns’ Grove Farm pub, but one location is as high as £13.99.
In third place is Gloucester, with average roast prices of £12.49. The most expensive prices included in the study are around £14.79, but, thanks to the trusty prices of Brewers Fayre, diners will find a carvery for as low as £11.49 in the city.

Wolverhampton is the cheapest city in the UK for pub roast, with a carvery averaging £10.99
Taking the top spot as the cheapest city for a carvery is Wolverhampton, where a pub roast costs an average of just £10.99. One Greene King location, the Nickelodeon, is as cheap as £9.49, the lowest price of any carvery in the study. Prices do go as high as £11.49 at some Wolverhampton pubs analysed in the study, however this is the standard price at most Brewers Fayre locations across the country.
Glasgow has come in second place. A weekend carvery in the Scottish city average £11.52, just 5% more than in Wolverhampton. There’s not too much of a price range in Glasgow, with each weekend carvery analysed in the study ranging from £11.49 to £11.69.
In third place is Newcastle, with a carvery costing around £11.70 in the city. One Greene King location offers a weekend carvery for as low as £9.99, but there are a couple of pubs included in the study that are a little pricier, at £13.79 – a 38% difference in price.
