Although doing laundry is just a question of putting it in the washing machine and turning it on, it is the drying of clothes that can be a problem. Tumble driers need electricity which isn’t exactly cheap at the moment, and hanging washing on a line is fine when it isn’t raining. Let’s face it, in Britain, it rains a lot!

Dryer racks and airers are the way forward, due to them being cheaper than a tumble dryer and aren't weather dependent. There are several different types, so let’s take a look at some of the options available so you can make the right choice.

Freestanding Airers

Freestanding airers are versatile and easy to use. They usually come with multiple tiers of drying space, allowing you to hang a significant amount of laundry. These airers are great for large families or households with a lot of laundry to dry. The freestanding design means you can move them around the house to catch the best sunlight or adjust their position to accommodate different loads.

Wall-Mounted Airers

If you have limited floor space, wall-mounted airers might be the perfect solution for you. These airers can be folded up against the wall when not in use, saving valuable space in your laundry room or bathroom. Wall-mounted airers are ideal for smaller households or those who only need to dry a few garments at a time.

Electric Airers

For those who prefer a hassle-free drying experience, electric airers are worth considering. These airers come with built-in heating elements that help speed up the drying process, making them especially useful during colder months. Electric airers are more energy-efficient, to use when compared to a tumble dryer, you can set to a timer allowing you to control the energy consumption. Using an electric airer that comes with a cover to trap the heat in allows you to dry your clothes faster.

Folding Airers

Folding airers are designed for easy storage. They typically consist of a metal or plastic frame with foldable drying racks. When not in use, you can fold them flat and tuck them away in a cupboard or behind a door. Folding airers are perfect for small apartments or homes with limited storage space.

Consider factors like the amount of laundry you do, available space in your home, and your drying preferences when choosing the right airer. Additionally, look for quality materials that can withstand the weight of wet clothes without bending or breaking.

Finding the right airer depends on your specific needs and living situation. Whether you opt for a freestanding, wall-mounted, electric or folding having one will undoubtedly make laundry drying more convenient and efficient. Choose wisely, and you'll find your airer is an invaluable addition to your home.
