3 Things to Do to Look After Your Teeth
It’s so important to take care of your teeth. Not only do they affect your looks, but having nice looking, healthy teeth will make you more confident, will make it easier to eat the foods you want to eat, will be cheaper to take care of, and will be better for your overall health – decaying or unhealthy teeth can cause bacteria to enter the bloodstream and make you unwell.
Therefore, it’s crucial to know what it takes to make sure your teeth are in the best condition. Do the following things to look after your teeth, and they should serve you well for many years to come.
See Your Dentist Regularly
It’s crucial, as we’ve said, for you to be doing all you can to keep your teeth and gums healthy. However, that doesn’t mean you can neglect your dentist. Just like with your eyes, your hearing, and your general health, it’s a good idea to visit an expert such as those at Sensational Smiles just to make sure that all is well. Ideally, when it comes to seeing your dentist, an appointment every six months works well.
Your dentist will be able to give your teeth a much more thorough clean than you can at home, ensuring that twice a year, all the plaque can be entirely removed. Plus, they can check for anything untoward. If they spot something, they can do something about it before it becomes a painful problem. The sooner a problem is spotted, the easier it is to handle and put right. This is especially important if you’ve had problems with your teeth before, but even if they are generally very healthy, it’s still worth the extra check.
Brush Properly
The best thing you can do – among many good things for your teeth is to brush them properly with fluoride toothpaste. This means brushing for around two minutes at a time, at least twice a day (and ideally after every meal if you can). The best way to do it is to move the brush in slow, circular movements, which will loosen the plaque. If the plaque isn’t removed, it can build up and lead to gum disease, also known as gingivitis.
When brushing, you should also brush your tongue. This may not be something many people enjoy, but by brushing your tongue when you brush your teeth, you can eliminate bad breath as well as other oral diseases. If you can add flossing and mouthwash to your dental cleaning routine, that’s even better.
Drink Water
Water is the best thing you can drink, full stop. When it comes to your teeth, this is still just as true as when it comes to your weight, your stress levels, and your health. Water is kind to your teeth as it doesn’t contain any acidic ingredients, and it will also help to wash away anything that might be sticking to your teeth, such as sugar, which will do a lot of harm and could cause cavities or even destroy the tooth altogether.
If you’re unable to brush your teeth after every meal and can only do it in the morning and before bed, make sure you drink water after you eat lunch or have snacks, as this will mitigate the damage being done.
