Four ways to give your home some TLC
After spending many a month inside this year, like us, you have probably spotted more and more things in your home that you would like to change or sort out. If you have spent majority of lockdown pottering about your home and garden, we wouldn’t be surprised if you are beginning to run out of things to fix and sort! But fear not, for we have created a helpful list of some jobs in your home or garden that can sometimes be overlooked. Give your home that TLC it deserves this winter!
Clear Out Your Wardrobe
After a year of unprecedented events, majority of people are now working from home. The stylish office outfits have been replaced with sweatpants and oversized jumpers. Let’s not forget the trusty, fluffy dressing gown. Quite a few people do this annually, but if you have not considered this before, what better time than to jump into it. Go through your clothes and assess anything that you have not worn this year and won’t be wearing soon; let’s not lie to ourselves, this pile will probably be the biggest of them all! Make yourself some piles of old favourites, and clothes that you have worn in the last year. Anything that doesn’t make it into these piles, donate to charity. You will be clearing out items that you no longer want, while donating to a cause which will help people in need. Plus, clearing out old clothes makes room for purchasing a new wardrobe this coming Spring!
Deep Clean the Bathroom
While the bathroom is the place that we get ourselves clean, they can get awfully grubby over time, even with regular cleaning. Set aside a day when the kids and pets are out of sight, to give that bathroom the deep clean that it deserves. Get right into the sealant between the tiles, when was the last time that was done?! Ensuring that every nook and cranny is disinfected is vitally important, especially in the new world we live in where we are cleaning every surface that we touch. Don’t forget the one job that is dreaded by many, unblocking drains. It is only natural that dirt and grime builds up in the drains and pipes over time, but this can be a particularly unpleasant job for many homeowners. Most drains should be treatable with at-home measures, but if you are finding that you are having trouble with blocked drains in the bath, toilet or sink, contact a professional drainage company like that of Imperial Drainage. These types of companies are available all over, from London to Leicester. They provide general draining services or emergencies round-the-clock.
Declutter Your Attic
Now, if you are like us, you probably have a lot of stuff stored in your attic or loft which you have forgotten about. Bags and boxes are stored in these dusty dwellings for years on end, left to their own devices until we one day realise, we need one of those things and go on a mad hunt for it. Grab your ladder – and someone to safely hold the ladder, while you ascend – and give that attic a well-deserved sort through. As with decluttering your wardrobe, sort through piles of belongings which you forgot you owned, and of which, you won’t be using in the future. These can again, be donated to a charity, where someone in need can make use. As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! Reorganising your attic space while you are there, will also save future you some time and effort when searching for something. Organise piles into categories, whether that be by item or by room, the choice is yours. Not to mention, this will also make things easier when going on a hunt for the Christmas decorations!
Exterior of Your Home
Not really something many of us consider but cleaning the exterior of your home is an excellent way of giving it some well-deserved TLC. For some people, this means whipping out the pressure washer from the garage and hosing down any dirt and grime build up on the rendering, while for others, it could be taking your time and cleaning one section of the house at a time. No matter the approach you choose, your home will thank you for it. Ensure that you don’t forget those windows! While it isn’t advised to clean your windows with a pressure washer – just in case something goes wrong, you don’t want to needlessly damage them – there are plenty of other techniques out there which can be used, leaving you with bright, sparkling and streak-free windows. Giving the exterior of your house will not only give it a face-life of sorts, but will provide the cosy, family-home backdrop that you want this festive season. Finish off your efforts by putting up some bright, colourful Christmas lights!
