Why Christmas will be even more meaningful this year
It’s looking likely that unless the impact of Coronavirus dramatically decreases over the next couple of months, then we are in for an even more intimate Christmas than usual. However, just because certain restrictions will be in place does not mean we can't still enjoy the day. With a little imagination and a lot of goodwill, we can all make Christmas 2020 a Christmas to remember for all the right reasons.
Christmas dinner
Often seen as the main event, this year’s Christmas dinner will still be an opportunity to celebrate with your nearest and dearest, as you will still be able to get a turkey with all the trimmings to enjoy on the day. You might not be able to celebrate with your family in-person (depending on your local lockdown restrictions) but you can always sit down at the table with a laptop and share Christmas dinner over Zoom or Skype. One thing is for certain, it’s certainly going to be a dinner you won’t forget in a hurry.
Presents
This year, we'll all be putting a lot more effort and thought into our gifts and sending them in the post for those we're unable to celebrate with directly. Because we won’t be tempted by the usual Christmas events like the office parties and the Christmas Markets, we’ll have more money left to spend on our loved ones and buy them presents they’ll truly enjoy. You can even buy them gifts to space throughout Advent, so they might open some luxurious Christmas chocolate one day, jumpers the next and decorations the next.
Another gift idea is to send a personalised card to your loved ones filled with photos and memories of the past year. Many haven't seen their families during the pandemic, and the personal touch will be heart warming to those receiving it.
Spending time with those closest to us
This year has made us focus on the more important things and the people in our lives that make them special. Whilst we might not be able to see everyone we'd like to this Christmas, we'll still hopefully be able to celebrate with those who have the most significance in our lives and it will bring families even closer together than before.
According to research from Kinetic Worldwide, 75% of 18-34-year-olds think that seasonal festivities will be more important this year than ever before and 28% have already started their Christmas shopping. Whether we’re physically allowed to share space with our families on Christmas Day or not, it’s going to be a day about coming together in a year that’s kept us apart.
With the rollout of local lockdowns and the new tiered system to negotiate, it’s going to be a complicated year. But one thing is for certain, Christmas this year is at least going to be a little less stressful than usual. Because nobody is going to care about whether or not it’s ‘the perfect Christmas’. They’ll just be happy to have any kind of Christmas at all!
